In recent years, the university has further optimized its discipline layout by implementing a discipline-led strategy. It has initially established a discipline system and layout featuring Liaoning Province Double First-Class disciplines as the lead, provincial key disciplines as the backbone, emerging interdisciplinary studies as highlights, and resource chemical engineering and materials as its distinct characteristics. Currently, the university has 1 post-doctoral research station, 1 first-level discipline PhD program, 14 masters degree programs and 8 professional masters degree programs. Three disciplines, namely chemistry, engineering, and materials science, are ranked in the top 1% globally in ESI, placing the university among the top provincial universities in terms of the total number of such disciplines. Chemical engineering and technology has been selected for the provincial first-class discipline construction list. The university has jointly established an institute for the integration of science and education with more than 20 research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and has partnered with the University of Science and Technology of China to launch an Elite Class in chemical engineering and energy. The Magnesium Industry College has been selected as one of the first batch of modern industry colleges by the Ministry of Education, focusing on cultivating engineering and innovative talents specifically for the magnesium industry.
