In 1958, it was reorganized into Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology, renamed University of Science and Technology of Liaoning in 1960. In 1978, it reverted to the name Shenyang Institute of Chemical Technology before adopting its current name in 2010. The discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology has been selected for the provincial first-class discipline construction list. The university’s Party committee has been honored with titles such as “Advanced Party Organization of Liaoning Province” and one of the first batch of demonstration universities for Party development work in the province. Located in Shenyang Economic and Technological Development Zone, the university occupies approximately 950 acres (3.8 square kilometers) with a building area of 550,000 square meters. It currently has 1,028 full-time faculty members and 18,000 students. The university offers 1 first-class doctoral program, 14 master’s programs, 8 professional master’s programs, and 61 undergraduate programs (including 16 national first-class specialty construction points, 32 provincial first-class specialty construction points, and 15 engineering education certification programs). The disciplines of Chemistry and Engineering are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI world rankings. The university has established a post-doctoral research station for Chemical Engineering and Technology. In the past five years, nearly 18,000 graduates have been produced, with 15% employed by central enterprises such as CNPC and SINOPEC, 12% by well-known private enterprises such as Hengli Petrochemical and Qilu Pharmaceutical, and 65% remaining in Liaoning for employment and entrepreneurship. The university has established the Science and Technology Committee of the China Magnesite & Material Association and set up the Science and technology award of the China Magnesite & Material Association. It has led the establishment of the World Engineering Thermochemistry Society and the Institute of Engineering Thermochemistry of ClESC, and established the “Engineering Thermochemistry Award”. In cooperation with Chaoyang City and Yingkou City, the university has established pilot plants. It has transformed the 4 million tons magnesite flash roasting technology and replaced imported flame-retardant magnesium hydroxide production technology, driving social investment of more than 1 billion yuan. The university is a base for the Higher Education Discipline Innovation Introduction Plan. It has jointly established colleges for science and education integration with more than 20 institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and has established a “Chemical and Energy Elite Class” with the University of Science and Technology of China. The “Magnesite Industry College” has been selected as one of the first batch of modern industry colleges by the Ministry of Education, focusing on cultivating industry engineering innovation talents for the magnesite industry. The university is one of the first 40 pilot units for the reform of empowering scientific and technological achievements. It has created a “three-directional” model for scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation, which has been selected as one of the top 100 cases of comprehensive innovation reform trials by the National Development and Reform Commission and included in the case library of the Science and Technology Department for the reform of the science and technology system. It has been promoted in more than 40 provinces, cities, universities, and research institutions across the country, with the contract amount of technology transfer achievements ranking among the top universities in the country from 2018 to 2020. The university has established cooperative relationships with 35 universities and research institutions in 27 countries and regions. It has three international cooperation platforms, including the African Research Center, the Russian Research Center, and the Sino-Russian Academician Workstation, and two national and regional research centers of the Ministry of Education.
