On the afternoon of 22 December, our university held the 2018 symposium in Conference Room 8 in the university headquarter building on cooperation and development of alumni from Shenyang University of Chemical Technology. Bai Wei (secretary of the party committee), Xu Guangwen (president), Da Kening (vice president), Meng Xianmei (secretary of the committee for discipline inspection), Jin Zhihao (vice president), Yang Xueyin (vice president), the heads of relevant functional departments and colleges and departments of our university, and 19 outstanding alumni representatives from all over the country participated in the symposium. The symposium was chaired by Secretary Meng Xianmei.
At the symposium, Secretary Bai Wei first gave a welcome speech. He sent a warm welcome to all the alumni on behalf of the university. He pointed out that today’s symposium aimed to focus on the growth of the alumni and to seek common development so that the university and its alumni could become a development community. He stressed that one must deeply understand the special relationship between the university and its alumni — the alma mater was always a haven for its alumni, and its alumni were the most beautiful business cards of the alma mater. He said that the continuous development of the university could not be separated from the concern and support of its alumni. “The alma mater is the root; the emotion is the tie; careers are a community; development is the major principle.” He also stressed that one must deeply understand the key points of the cooperation between the university and its alumni. He suggested making full use of the advantages of the university in scientific research and personnel training, playing the role of alumni, studying the common development of the university and its alumni, and striving for win-win cooperation. The secretary hoped that the alumni would be able to contribute more ideas and strength to the alma mater in the future and to promote the alma mater to achieve better development together with the teachers and students.
President Xu Guangwen first expressed his greetings and wishes to the alumni, using words such as “the warmest welcome, the most heartfelt pride, the most sincere gratitude, the most genuine expectation, the deepest wishes” to describe his excitement. President Xu introduced the development of our university in recent years mainly from the perspectives of historical evolution, talent cultivation, scientific and technological innovation, highlights and status quo. President Xu pointed out that this symposium aimed to discuss how the university and its alumni would better obtain coordinated development: the service for the alumni was to be strengthened; the channels for the alumni to participate in the university’s development were to be opened up; the platform for the win-win development of the university and its alumni was to be built.
He Wei, Director of Strategic Development and Cooperation Department of our university, made project promotion for ten projects, including the Technology of Oil and Gas Refinement from Oil-Shale, the Technology of Efficient and Pollution-free Gasoline Modification Preparation, the Project of Integrated Road Construction of Shenyang University of Chemical Technology, etc.
The alumni present introduced the profiles of the enterprises where they worked, recommended the excellent cooperation projects in some industry, and put forward valuable opinions on the alumni cooperation model.
Subsequently, the university leaders and the alumni had communication about alumni cooperation and common development.
President Xu Guangwen made a concluding speech. President Xu expressed that we would constantly explore the value of the alumni in all walks of life and unite together to continuously increase the viscosity of the alma mater and its alumni. Regarding the future cooperation between the university and its alumni, President Xu put forward six views: the first was to further look for the match point of the university and alumni cooperation in order to promote their common development; the second was to further seek companies or institutions that could bring new developments to the university; the third was to set up a working group dealing with the university and alumni cooperation matters so as to promote the implementation of related work as soon as possible; the fourth was to make up for the lack of development of the school through the cooperation with the alumni; the fifth was to establish a specialized alumni platform with professional staff; the sixth was to build a platform to further integrate resources, pool strength, and enhance exchanges, so as to promote common progress and common development between the university and its alumni.
