Professor Chris Hardacre, dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science at the University of Manchester, signed a cooperation agreement with Fang Qinghong, dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering at Shenyang University of Chemical Technology.

President Xu Guangwen gave a welcome address and a brief introduction to our university. He said that Shenyang was one of the oldest industrial cities in China, and that Shenyang University of Chemical Technology had been founded in response to the needs of the development of the chemical industry in Northeast China, and these years it was dedicated to the application of technology to serve the society. He added that the university, attaching great importance to international cooperation, had established friendly relations with dozens of foreign universities, and achieved results in innovation research and joint student training. He hoped that both sides could play their respective advantages and complement each other, and meanwhile Shenyang Science and Technology Bureau would support the cooperation and exchange between the two universities.

Professor Chris Hardacre introduced the University of Manchester. It was set up in 1824. It was the birthplace of the world’s first computer, and was also the birthplace of the world’s chemical engineering discipline. The UK’s development in engineering was based on the industrial revolution in Manchester. The School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester was the largest chemical engineering school in the UK and even one of the largest in Europe. The University of Manchester laid stress on international cooperation and had been seeking cooperation with other universities. The cooperation between the two universities, in his hope, would be a win-win situation.

He said that the city of Shenyang valued foreign cooperation and exchanges greatly, and it was the expectation of the Shenyang Municipal Government to build research and development institutions and laboratories with foreign universities. He hoped that the cooperation between Shenyang University of Chemical Technology and the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom would enable the two universities to achieve win-win development and contribute to the economic development of Shenyang. He promised that Shenyang Science and Technology Bureau would give more attention and support to this cooperation.

In the afternoon, the two sides held further discussion on student exchange and scientific research cooperation in the 8thmeeting room of the university headquarter building.
