The State Key Research and Development Program “Key Technology and Performance Study on Gutta-percha

On November 7th, the initiation of the key special project “New Type Bio-based Rubber Material Preparation Technology and Application Demonstration” of the National Key Research and Development Program “Key Basic Materials Technology Enhancement and Industrialization” and implementation program consultation and review meeting were held in Beijing. The initiation was organized by the High Technology Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Academician Cao Xianghong, Academician Jian Xigao, Members of the Key Project Expert Team of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Petrochemical Federation, Project Advisory Expert Group and other experts and professors participated and launched the review.

The “New Type Bio-based Rubber Material Preparation Technology and Application Demonstration” project was led by Beijing University of Chemical Technology. Professor Zhang Liqun, the distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholarship of the Ministry of Education and the winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, was responsible for the project. Including Shenyang University of Chemical Technology and Linglong Tire etc., 18 universities, research institutes, and enterprises and institutions work together. The experts and leaders all agreed that the start of the project is a major deployment of China's development of bio-based rubber materials, which will greatly promote the green and sustainable development of China's rubber industry, and will greatly promote the application of bio-based rubber materials industrialization in China.

The “New Type Bio-based Rubber Material Preparation Technology and Application Demonstration” project is divided into five research topics, among which, our university has undertaken the “Key Technology and Performance Study on Gutta-percha Extractive” project. Fang Qinghong, Dean of the School of Materials and Engineering, is responsible for the project. Xiangxi Laodie Biological Co., Ltd. and Aeolus Tyre Co., Ltd. were the participants of the project. At the meeting, Prof. Fang Qinghong reported on the implementation plan of the project.

The gutta-percha research team of our university has carried out basic research on the relationship between extraction and performance, crystallization of gutta-percha, chain structure and blending processing, and has successfully developed the world's first batch of gutta-percha rubber aviation tires, and at the same time, carried out scientific research on gutta-percha plastic toughening plastics, epoxidation and modification of gutta-percha, self-repairing materials of gutta-percha, shape memory materials of gutta-percha, and a series of scientific research achievements. The approval of this project will further promote our university's research work on the basis and development of gutta-percha.
